Appearance
The Amazon River dolphin has a very different appearance than any of the other types of dolphins.
Color: The Amazon River dolphin can be a variety of pinks, from flamingo pink to bubblegum, depending on the branch of the river that they live in. The clearer the water and easier it is for sun to reach them, the paler the pink they are. The sun's rays are what pales the pink pigment in the dolphin's skin.
Size: The Amazon River dolphin is 9 feet and can weigh up to 200 lbs. Males are generally larger than females.
Shape: The Amazon River dolphin has a larger back than that of a bottle nose or other common dolphins. Their beaks can be up to 1/5 of their body size, considerably larger than any other species of dolphins' beaks. The Amazon River dolphin has rounder fins than other species of dolphins and a rounded tail. The Amazon River Dolphin also has a larger melon, or forehead, than other dolphins. Unlike other dolphin species, the Amazon River Dolphin has no dorsal fin, but does have a dorsal ridge.
